The church of Santa Pudenziana

Following a small path that winds through the beautiful countryside of Visciano di Narni, you reach one of the most beautiful churches in the Narni area. The church of Santa Pudenziana cannot be discovered by chance, as it lies in a ravine between the countryside and the woods. You can see the bell tower after passing the small village whose houses are scattered along the lane. Thus we find ourselves, enveloped in the silence of the place, in front of an architectural delight of the eleventh century, a synthesis of sobriety and artistic refinement, made using extensive use of bare material. The reused elements inserted in the building are from Roman times: capitals, precious marbles, tiles with stamps and fragments of floor mosaic. The high bell tower stands next to the facade with the small portico formed by two elegant columns. The interior is adorned with valuable frescoes, such as the "Madonna and Child" in the lower end of the ciborium and the figures of saints painted on the walls and columns, almost all done in the same period in which the church was built.
