Between Dog and Wolf
To 7 January
The exhibition project includes sculptures, environmental installations, videos and a large canvas by Cristiano Carotti, along with sound installations by Alessandro Deflorio and Rodrigo D’Erasmo.
The title of the exhibition, "Between Dog and Wolf," is an idiomatic expression borrowed from the French language - entre chien et loup - describing dusk, that time of day when the fading light makes it difficult to focus on shapes and their shadows.
In this sense, it is possible to confuse the figures of the dog and the wolf in the darkness: so similar in physical appearance but not in temperament.
This image is the starting point for the tale of the artist Cristiano Carotti, who for years has ventured on the road connecting his homeland, Umbria, to his adopted land, Rome.
During the journey, the artist is completely captivated by what populates the road. In fact, objects, plants and animals become true travel companions, to the point of prompting him to collect abandoned tyres, the remains of run-over animals and all the significant traces, lost along the way, of human passage and the natural environment.
Subsequently, the artist preserves the remains in cement casts and regenerates them with aluminium casts, transforming them into sculptures and giving them a new vital dimension.
The music, specially composed by Alessandro Deflorio and Rodrigo D’Erasmo, plays a fundamental role in the exhibition: a sound carpet that initially provides reassurance and comfort, later shifts to metallic and disturbing sounds in an ideal metamorphosis from dog to wolf.
The exhibition will be open from 28 October 2023 to 7 January 2024.
